Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program

The clinical psychology doctoral program at Jackson State University is rapidly growing. In 2007, the university awarded two doctoral degrees in psychology and in 2013, 15 psychology doctorates were awarded. Mississippi State University

College of Education’s Department of Counseling & Educational Psychology

Mississippi State University’s Department of Counseling and Educational Psychology is housed in the College of Education. The university began training teachers in 1903, and today MSU’s program is one of the largest and most well-respected in the state. The program has a strong focus on training teachers to be comfortable with using technology in the classroom. University of Mississippi

Department of Psychology Graduate Program

The University of Mississippi was founded over 160 years ago and today has a student population of nearly 22,000 students. Over the past decade, enrollment has grown 44%. In addition, the minority enrollment grew from 5.7% in 2011 to 25% in 2012. The university is also attracting an increasing number of highly qualified students. The average ACT score of incoming graduates has increased to 23.8 and the average high school GPA of incoming freshmen is now 3.43. The university is also the center of science and research in Mississippi with the institution holding over 40 patents on technology including immune system stimulators, cancer and malaria treatments, fire ant traps and thermoacoustic refrigeration devices.

Ph.D in Clinical Psychology

The clinical psychology program at the University of Mississippi is fully accredited by the American Psychological Association and meets all criteria for students to become licensed as a clinical psychologist in the state of Mississippi. During the first two years of the degree program, students complete academic courses in assessment, psychometrics, psychopathology, behavior modification and other areas of psychological practice. During the third and fourth years, students complete practica, research and elective courses. The fifth year consists of a supervised internship at an APA-approved site. University of Southern Mississippi

Department of Psychology

The University of Southern Mississippi has several options for individuals seeking doctorates in psychology. The Department of Psychology offers doctorates in clinical psychology, counseling psychology and school psychology. The university was founded in 1910 and currently has a student body of over 17,000 students. The university’s graduate program emphasizes research and scholarship activities designed to further the field of psychology’s knowledge.

Clinical Psychology Ph.D

USM’s Clinical Psychology Ph.D. program focuses on the Boulder Model clinical training program and the scientist-practitioner training model. The department emphasizes evidence-based assessment and treatment approaches from a cognitive and behavioral theoretical standpoint. Students will spend four years on campus focusing on academic and research work and a year at an off-site pre-doctoral clinical internship. All students are also required to complete a full-year internship before earning their doctorate. Students are paid stipends for teaching, externships and assistantships as long as they work at least 20 hours a week. Most or all of the program’s tuition is often covered by waivers and stipends.

Doctoral Program in Counseling Psychology

The University of Southern Mississippi’s doctoral program in counseling psychology is among the nation’s Top 20 Research Productivity institutions. The university boasts an internship placement rate of over 90%. In addition, the program has an on-site faculty-supervised community clinic where students can receive supervised training without leaving campus.
