Arizona State University
College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
Currently ranked as the 142nd best college and 73rd top public school in the nation, Arizona State University serves more than 70,000 students within its four distinct campuses in Phoenix. Within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Department of Psychology is among the largest and most popular of all the departments on the ASU campus. In fact, the U.S. News and World Report rank it as hosting the 38th best graduate psychology programs in the nation. After first being launched by the famous Harvard philosopher William James in 1875, the Department of Psychology has had a long colorful history of helping graduate students conduct innovative research and pursue careers in psychological fields that benefit the whole community.
PhD in Clinical Psychology
As one of the six major areas of doctoral study within the ASU Tempe Department of Psychology, the PhD in Clinical Psychology is a fully accredited program based on the clinical science model of training. Students who are admitted into the program with a bachelor’s degree in psychology are able to fulfill all degree requirements in six years, including the one-year, full-time internship in a clinical training setting. In the PhD program, students can elect to participate in three areas of emphasis, which are health psychology, child clinical psychology, or community prevention. If interested, enrolled students can pursue a rigorous JD-PhD program in Law and Clinical Psychology as well for further expertise.

School of Letters and Sciences
As a distinct division within the large and illustrious Arizona State University, the School of Letters and Sciences is aimed at helping students gather the skills necessary to effectively engage in the changing world of the 21st century. PhD in Counseling Psychology
Strongly based on the scientist-practitioner training model, the Doctoral in Counseling Psychology program prepares graduate students for employment in both academic and clinical service settings. The rigorous curriculum usually requires students to engage in three to five years of full-time studies, in addition to a one-year internship within a clinical training setting that has been approved by the American Psychological Association. Students gain valuable expertise in directly counseling clients with their personal or relationship concerns, including depression, anxiety, divorce, career changes, and more.

Students accepted into the highly selective program are required to complete a Master’s project, comprehensive written and oral examination, dissertation research or theoretical paper, and a doctoral internship full-time for twelve months in an accredited clinical setting.
PhD in Social Psychology
Designed to prepare students for scholarly careers in research and academic settings, the Social Psychology PhD program is strongly based on the research mentorship model with the core faculty members. As a result, the program has earned the distinction of being the 5th best graduate Social Psychology program in the nation. Starting from the first semester of the graduate program, students are actively engaged in research topics that suit their individual interests and career goals in social psychology. The program is focused on discovering new principles in self-esteem, social perception, attitudes, racial prejudices, stereotyping, personality, and self-concept.
